Start at intermediate altitudes
Optimal acclimatisation strategy: Santa Cruz (416m) or Sucre (2,750m) first. 1–2 days of adjustment before reaching La Paz (3,640m) or the Altiplano.

Fly internally — not always buses
BoA and Amaszonas connect La Paz–Sucre, La Paz–Rurrenabaque, La Paz–Uyuni, La Paz–Santa Cruz. A 30–50min flight saves 8–16h of mountain bus travel.

Season: May–October is most comfortable
Clear skies, good roads, wildlife concentrated at rivers. Uyuni mirror effect: December–March. Carnaval de Oruro: 14 February.
