Why Bolivia for the jaguar

The largest jaguar on the planet
lives here.

Eastern Bolivia's jaguars are the largest recorded across the Americas. Kaa-Iya del Gran Chaco National Park (34,000 km²) and the Bolivian Pantanal (2.9 million hectares) form one of the last intact jaguar corridors on the planet.

Unlike the Brazilian Pantanal — crowded and expensive — eastern Bolivia has minimal wildlife tourism. The same ecosystems, the same animal density — but guides know you by name and the trails are yours.

Guía Juan Pablo Suárez — Love Bolivia
Your Jaguar Route guide
Juan Miguel
Biologist · Eastern Bolivia · 14 years in the field

Meet your guide

Fourteen years in the field.

Juan Pablo holds a biology degree from UAGRM (Santa Cruz) and has guided in eastern Bolivia for 14 years. Specialist in Pantanal and Chiquitanía wildlife, and in the baroque Jesuit heritage — two dimensions that rarely coexist in a single guide.

He has participated in three jaguar tracking studies with the Noel Kempff Museum and Panthera Bolivia. He knows the giant otter families of San Matías by name — literally. His wildlife sighting rate exceeds the regional average by 40%.

"We didn't see a jaguar but the wildlife was extraordinary — caimans, giant otters, hundreds of birds. The Jesuit missions were a revelation."
