When to go to Bolivia?
Bolivia has no single season — it depends on what you want to see. The dry season (May–Oct) is most comfortable for the Altiplano. The wet season activates the Amazon and the mirror effect.
Clear skies, good road conditions, perfect Altiplano temperature (15–22°C days). Ideal for the Salar de Uyuni (perfect white crust), trekking near La Paz, and southeastern Bolivia. Chaco wildlife concentrates around water sources.
The Salar de Uyuni floods shallowly creating the world's most photographed mirror effect (Dec–Mar). Amazon and Chapare at their biological peak. Roads may be difficult in remote areas. Carnaval de Oruro in February.
Bolivia's largest folkloric entrada: 20,000+ dancers, 30,000+ musicians, 48 conjuntos. UNESCO declared it a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage. Book Oruro accommodation 3–6 months ahead.
August is Bolivia's festival month: Urkupiña in Quillacollo (Cochabamba) — the country's largest pilgrimage with 400,000 people — and dozens of patron saint celebrations across the altiplano.

Do I need a visa for Bolivia?
From 1 December 2025, US citizens moved into Group 1 — no visa required for 90 days. UK, EU, Canada, Australia and New Zealand already had this status. ALL travellers must complete the SIGEMIG (free digital registration, 8–10 min) before arriving.
Free digital migration registration. Complete at sigemig.gob.bo before flying. Generates a QR code you present at the border. Takes 8–10 minutes. Without SIGEMIG, the immigration officer will register you at the border.
